Overview
When Nottinghamshire County Council required 27 feeder pillars for a major street-lighting project, timing was critical. Working in partnership with Thorne & Derrick, our specialist electrical distributor, Lucy Zodion supplied the units directly from UK stock, ensuring full compliance with the council’s specification and helping the highways programme stay on schedule.
Delivered from ‘factory to field’ in just three days, the project highlights how our Fortress range of feeder pillars, backed by responsive UK manufacturing and trusted distribution, continues to deliver for local authorities across the country.
The Challenge
Sub-contractor Fernmac Limited, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, needed 27 galvanised-steel feeder pillars at short notice.
Each unit had to meet precise requirements, including:
- Galvanised-steel construction with side-hinged doors and stainless-steel/brass hinges
- A 15 mm marine-grade plywood backboard, moisture-repellent lacquered
- 10-way brass earth block
- Minimum IP34 ingress-protection rating for outdoor installation
Although Lucy Zodion was not the originally specified manufacturer, our Fortress range fully satisfied the council’s design, performance, and compliance needs — offering an immediately available solution.
The Solution
Thorne & Derrick’s technical team worked closely with Lucy Zodion to review drawings, confirm compatibility, and coordinate the build and dispatch of all 27 units.
Within three days of order placement, the full consignment left our Sowerby Bridge facility for delivery across Nottinghamshire’s highways network.
This rapid turnaround was made possible by clear communication, established stockholding, and a shared commitment to customer service.
The Results
The project demonstrated how collaboration and local manufacturing can keep essential infrastructure moving:
- Fast delivery – 27 pillars supplied from UK stock within three days
- Full compliance – meeting Nottinghamshire County Council’s design and performance standards
- Seamless coordination – between Lucy Zodion, Thorne & Derrick, and Fernmac
- Customer confidence – clear communication throughout every stage
