Helping local authorities take control of air quality

Lucy Zodion is pleased to announce a new partnership with Libelium, enhancing the capabilities of the Ki. smart city platform with advanced environmental monitoring.

The integration of Libelium’s Smart Spot air quality sensors enables local authorities and infrastructure managers to monitor a wide range of environmental metrics in real time — from harmful gases and particulate matter to noise levels, temperature and humidity. This supports smarter, faster decision-making and helps create cleaner, more liveable communities.

Supporting better environmental insights

Air pollution remains a major challenge in urban areas, with implications for both public health and city planning. By incorporating Libelium’s Smart Spot technology, Ki. now offers a powerful solution that makes it easier to track air quality across key locations — including Low Emission Zones and other high-traffic areas.

This gives users the tools to:

  • Monitor critical pollutants such as NO₂, CO, O₃, SO₂, PM2.5, PM10 and more
  • Identify patterns, sources and high-risk areas using real-time sensor data
  • Combine air quality monitoring with existing street lighting infrastructure
  • Deliver more informed action plans that protect public health and support Net Zero goals

Deployed and delivering in Douglas

One of the first joint projects is already underway in Douglas, Isle of Man, where Smart Spot sensors are helping monitor environmental conditions across the town. The system integrates seamlessly with Ki. smart city platform, allowing street lighting assets and air quality data to be viewed and managed via a single platform.

This collaboration demonstrates the power of connected infrastructure to deliver greater value and insight — supporting everything from operational efficiency to long-term sustainability.

“This partnership builds on our commitment to helping customers get more from their street lighting networks,” says John Fox, Managing Director of Lucy Zodion,

“By combining lighting control with live environmental monitoring, we’re helping local authorities respond more effectively to urban challenges — and take a proactive approach to building healthier communities.”

Looking ahead

As smart city infrastructure evolves, modular platforms like Ki. offer a way to connect and expand services across the urban environment. The addition of Libelium Smart Spot sensors ensures Lucy Zodion’s customers can futureproof their installations while unlocking new value through environmental data.
